WATCH: Obafemi scores first Premier League goal

Michael Obafemi has scored his first Premier League goal.

The Southampton striker latched on to Nathan Redmond’s pass to score the Saints’ third goal in their 3-1 win over Huddersfield.

The Republic of Ireland teenager had missed a great chance a few moments earlier, but made no mistake when presented with another opportunity in the 71st minute after Redmond capitalized on Christopher Schindler’s error.

His goal makes him Southampton’s youngest ever goalscorer in the Premier League.

Obafemi produced another lively cameo after his 65th minute introduction, and will be delighted to score his first senior goal for the club.

Redmond had given Southampton the lead in the 15th minute at the John Smith’s Stadium, and the in-form Danny Ings doubled the visitors advantage from the penalty spot three minutes before the interval.

Philip Billing pulled one back for the Terriers in the 58th minute, but Obafemi’s fine finish put the result beyond doubt with 19 minutes left on the clock.

The 18-year-old then had a chance to add a second in the 87th minute after racing clear of the Huddersfield defence, but could not beat Lossl with his strike.

It has been a brilliant week for Southampton – and their new manager Ralph Hasenhüttl – who have now won two games on the bounce after last weekend’s surprise win over Arsenal.
