WATCH: O’Dowda ends drought with superb strike

Callum O’Dowda has ended his goal drought.

The Republic of Ireland international scored an excellent goal – his first since November 2017 – in Bristol City’s 2-2 draw with Norwich on Saturday evening.

O’Dowda was played through superbly by Marlon Pack, and the 23-year-old produced an emphatic finish off the underside of the crossbar, leaving Tim Krul with no chance in the Norwich goal.

Marco Stiepermann’s fine finish had handed the visiting Canaries a first half lead, but Famara Diedhiou drew Bristol level on the stroke of half time.

O’Dowda’s 53rd minute rocket fired the hosts in front, but Max Aarons’ header sealed a draw for title-chasing Norwich with 12 minutes remaining.

The draw has lifted Bristol to within six points of the play-off places, and O’Dowda was happy to be back on the scoresheet.

“I’ve been quite unlucky with my illnesses, and I still probably haven’t got over it 100%,” the Irish international claimed afterwards.

“So it’s nice to get back in.

“As soon as Marlon picked it up, that was the first thought in my head. That’s what I tried to do today — run in behind and cause a threat.

“It was a great pass and I think it [the goal] took a deflection, but I didn’t really care to be honest.”
