Republic of Ireland U21 goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara has signed a new deal at Manchester United.
The highly rated 21 year old – who qualifies for Ireland through his grandparents – has signed a contract which will keep him at Old Trafford until 2020.
O’Hara has been with United since the age of eight, and is the boys in green’s first choice ‘keeper at u21 level.
He has yet to make his senior debut for the Red Devils, but was included in the squad earlier this season against Crystal Palace as backup to David de Gea.
“Since I joined United, it has been everything I expected it to be,” he told the club website.
“The club gives you all the guidance that you need from experienced coaches to improve every single day.
“But I know that the hard work has just started and that I need to continue to listen and give everything in training and the matches we have coming up. I know I’m at the right place to continue my development as a young player and I’m thrilled to have signed a new contract.”
Replacing David de Gea is a daunting task for any young goalkeeper, but O’Hara is relishing the challenge.
“I want to be the third-choice ‘keeper this season but wouldn’t rule out pushing for the No 1 spot,” he told Independent.ie earlier this season.
“I know that would be difficult because Manchester United are a massive club but if I keep developing and the opportunity comes, then I don’t see why not.
“After spending time on loan last season at Morecambe, United didn’t want me going away again and instead I’ve learned a lot from being around the first team. Working under the manager Jose Mourinho has been brilliant.”
