James McClean was crowned the 2017 RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year last night.
The Republic of Ireland international enjoyed a superb year for the boys in green, finishing the ultimately unsuccessful World Cup qualification campaign as top scorer for Martin O’Neill’s side.
The 28 year old beat of stiff competition from the likes of Katie Taylor, Ryan Burnett, Joe Canning, and Andy Moran to name but a few.
McClean missed the ceremony in Dublin as he was preparing for West Brom’s clash with Manchester United, but RTÉ’s Tony O’Donoghue caught up with McClean in the Derryman’s Birmingham home.
