McClean close to Potters move

James McClean is close to joining Stoke City.

The West Brom winger has entered the final year of his contract, and is reportedly valued at £6 million by the relegated club.

Stoke manager Gary Rowett is an admirer of McClean’s, and tried to bring the Irish international to Derby County in January.

McClean stayed at the Hawthorns, and played in all six matches under Darren Moore as the Baggies suffered relegation.

The 29 year old has made 112 appearances for West Brom since joining the club from Wigan three years ago.

The only potential stumbling block could be the fee, with The Mirror reporting that Stoke value McClean at £4 million, while West Brom are holding out for £6 million.

Stoke also failed to beat the drop, but will be hoping for a swift return to the English top flight.

The Potters have also signed striker Benik Afobe and midfielder Karo Etebo, and have been linked with a move for Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle.
