Robbie Brady’s move to Crystal Palace collapses

Robbie Brady’s move to Crystal Palace has collapsed.

Norwich had accepted a £9 million fee (plus add-ons) for the Irish international, but Palace have decided to sign Sunderland’s Patrick van Aanholt instead.

Sunderland have accepted a £14 million bid for the left back, a player who is familiar to Eagles boss Sam Allardyce from his time at the Stadium of Light.

Palace have also brought in Jeffrey Schlupp – another left sided player – this month, so it seems the deal to sign Brady is dead in the water.

It seems likely that Allardyce was using a potential move for Brady as a threat to Sunderland, who were ultimately convinced to part with van Aanholt, one of their key assets.

Burnley are now the clear favourites to sign the Dubliner, but only have until Tuesday to get a deal for the 24 year old over the line. Sean Dyche’s team have missed out on Robert Snodgrass, who has opted to join West Ham instead of the Clarets. This might be good news for Brady, as Burnley may now use the £12 million they bid for Snodgrass to fund a move for the Irishman.

There were widespread rumours that Brady underwent a medical at Burnley last night, but Norwich manager Alex Neill has played down these suggestions, and Brady trained with the Canaries this morning ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Birmingham.

Sunderland and Hull have also been linked with Brady in recent weeks, but a move to either club could see the former St. Kevin’s Boys player back in the Championship in May.
