Melbourne City are considering making an offer to Dundalk star Daryl Horgan.
The Australian side, who Horgan’s lookalike Damien Duff once played for, have been alerted to the Horgan’s excellent form by Manchester City.
Both clubs, along with New York City FC, are owned by the Abu Dhabi United Group, China Media Capital and CITIC Capital.
A host of Championship clubs are reportedly interested in signing him on a free once Dundalk’s historic Europa League run finishes, but according to the Independent, the Australian outfit have stepped up their pursuit of the 24 year old, and are interested in opening negotiations when Horgan assesses his options at the end of the season.
Melbourne finished fourth in last season’s A-League, play in a stadium with a capacity of 30,000, and would also be able to offer a long-term contract and high salary to the young Irish winger.
Whether this will be enough to entice Horgan remains to be seen, and the Galway born player may favour a move to England.
The Lilywhites’ star scored twice in Dundalk’s crucial 2-1 win over Cork City earlier this week, as Ireland boss Martin O’Neill watched from the stands.
