Irish winger Jonny Hayes to join Celtic

Republic of Ireland international Jonny Hayes is set to join Celtic.

The Scottish champions will pay £1.3 million for the Aberdeen winger according to the Scottish Daily Record, and Ryan Christie will head in the opposite direction on loan as part of the deal.

The Dubliner, who played against Uruguay at the Aviva, scored 11 goals and provided 24 assists last season for Aberdeen, and the 29 year old was also one of the nominees for the PFA Scotland Player of the Season.

Hayes’ impressive form last season has drawn the attention of Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic, who reportedly faced competition from Birmingham City, Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest.

The Irishman has scored 55 goals in 351 career appearances, and represented Reading and Leicester in England before moving across the border to Inverness in 2009.

He won the Scottish First Division with Inverness in the 2009/10 season, and the Scottish Cup with Aberdeen in the 2013/14 season.

The winger made his senior international debut in a friendly against Switzerland in 2016, and started his first game against Iceland in March.
