Martin O’Neill: “We need the crowd badly” against Moldova

Martin O’Neill says the crowd will have a big role to play when the Republic of Ireland welcome Moldova to the Aviva Stadium on October 6th.

The boys in green won the reverse fixture 3-1 in Moldova, but will be without several key players on Friday week.

Robbie Brady and James McClean will miss out through suspension, and Harry Arter is an injury doubt, and Walters is also sidelined through injury.

Last month’s disappointing results against Georgia and Serbia mean that winning Group D is virtually impossible for Ireland, which leaves us and Chris Coleman’s Wales vying for second place in the group.

Ireland will need to pick up three points before their potential winner-takes-all trip to Cardiff three days later.

O’Neill will also be hoping that Wales slip up in Tbilisi against a resilient Georgia side.

“I think the Moldova game is everything to us,” O’Neill said.

“We have to win this game.”
