Dundalk will play Celtic or Linfield if they beat Rosenborg

Dundalk will face either Celtic or Linfield in the next round of Champions League qualifiers if they can overcome Rosenborg next week.

The Lilywhites drew 1-1 with the 24 time Norwegian champions at Oriel Park on Wednesday, and know they must score in Trondheim if they are to progress to the next round.

Dave McMillan put the Town 1-0 up after a fine cross from Michael Duffy, but shoddy defending allowed Rosenborg to nick an equalizer – and a valuable away goal – from a set piece late in the first half.

Should Stephen Kenny’s side progress, the first legs of the third round will be played on 25/26 July with the returns leg planned for 1/2 August.

Celtic recently played Shamrock Rovers – who lost 3-2 to Mladá Boleslav in the Europa League qualifiers last night – and beat the Irish side 9-0 in a friendly at the Tallaght Stadium.

Cork City, who lost 1-0 to AEK Larnaca last night at Turners Cross, will face Rabotnicki (Macedonia) or Dinamo Minsk (Belarus) in the third round if the runaway league leaders can overcome their Cypriot opponents in the return leg.

Shamrock Rovers will face either Kairat Almaty (Kazakhstan) or Skënderbeu (Albania) at the same stage if they progress.
