Republic of Irelands fan's match for charity Headway
The Carling Nations Cup kicks off the 2nd round of matches on Tuesday May 24th in the Aviva Stadium when the Republic of Ireland will take on Northern Ireland. The following day Wales will face Scotland in the other penultimate round of games. Both the Republic of Ireland and Scotland are in the driving seats after their opening days wins, and they will be hungry to get another win over their local rivals for a chance to bring home some silverware the following weekend.
In order to foster and further develop good relations, supporters of each country have agreed to play each other in a Fans competition, sponsored by Carling, to run in tandem with the Senior Internationals.
The Republic of Ireland supporters (YBIG Select 11) have already beaten the Welsh fans, whereas the Northern Ireland fans were successful in beating the Scottish fans. It will all come to a head this week when the 2nd and 3rd round of matches take place and the fans team look to win their own silverware. All teams have a national Legend guiding them from the sidelines, with our own Ray Houghton giving the YBIG manager Phelim Warren a few pointers along the way!

Each country has chosen a charity to support and the Republic of Ireland have selected Headway Ireland, a charity that supports those with an Acquired Brain Injury - www.Headway.ie
Sponsorship cards have been given to each player and a fund-raising target of €1000 has been set. As an incentive all participants will be provided with a special memento of the games in the form of a 20cm X 30cm squad photo along with a similar sized action shot, something they can frame and recall in years to come of the day they represented their country as an international footballer.
